The marathon ‘Run for Unity’ (Ekta Daud) is a grand Event (planned as a part of a series of events) organized for the 1st time on the 31st of October, 2014, at different main locations in India as a celebration of the 139th birth anniversary of Late Mr. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (also known as the Iron Man of India), the 1st Home Minister of Independent India.

The Central Government has announced to observe the birth anniversary every year as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas as a tribute to the efforts of Mr. Patel of adding over 500 princely states to make a united India, so on the day, the grand occasion was celebrated as the type of day.

The preparations of this event, which has been started to spread the message of Patelji of good governance & national integration, started weeks in advance, from medical assistance to drinking water, particular arrangements had been made for participants. For the celebration of the marvelous event in Delhi, the national capital of India, the government offices around Parliament were closed at 2 pm on the 30th of October, 2014 to allow the Delhi Police to clear and sanitize the region, this type of security drill was seen only the day before the parade (march) of the Republic Day. The Unity Pledge was observed from 09:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Many ministers of India participated in this event.

This fact is notable that 64 year old Mr. Narendra Modi (the former chief minister of the state of Gujarat, who has ruled there for a long time of 14 years ceaselessly), the Present Honorable Prime Minister of India, considers Patelji his ideal & on the previous year in Gujarat, he has organized a resembling array of events to symbolize the death anniversary of Patelji. Now the marathon, which was held at over 1,100 locations all over the state of Gujarat, has become a main mobilization event.

In the early morning at Patel Chowk in the central part of Delhi, Modi ji offered flowers as a tribute to Late Patelji & said that Mahatma Gandhi was incomplete without Patelji, who was actually the architect of Modern India because he had a deep rooted courage, devotion & service to the Motherland.

After addressing participants of the run and administering a pledge to unity at Vijay Chowk, Modiji flagged off the run commencing from the crossing of Rajpath & Rafi Marg & terminating at Rajpath before ‘C’ Hexagon, India Gate. Modi Ji joined the run in the heart of Delhi, an avenue having the lines of trees between India Gate & The Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, the present Honorable President of India, flagged off a run at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. In the state capitals of India, chief ministers attended the events. On the occasion, ‘a pledge to unity’ ceremony took place in all government offices. A large number of young people & school children attended this event, which was organized across main cities, towns & districts.
